Subject field(s)
  • Animal Behaviour
  • Fish
DEF

[An] agonistic display behavior in which a fish faces another fish and flares its gill covers (opercula) and opens its mouth wide.

CONT

In 'frontal display', the fish orients with its head pointed towards another fish, the dorsal surface of the fish is slightly convex with the head lower than the tail, the mouth is open, and the floor of the mouth is slightly depressed.

OBS

This behavior may indicate aggression, territoriality or self defense (by making it appear too large to attack or eat).

Domaine(s)
  • Comportement animal
  • Poissons
DEF

DEF

The minimum concentration of vapour in air at which the propagation of flame occurs on contact with a source of ignition.

DEF

The lowest concentration of gas or vapour (% by volume in air) that will explode if an ignition source is present at ambient temperatures.

OBS

Expressed, for a gas or vapour, as a percentage in air by volume, and for dust, as the weight of dust per volume of air.

DEF

OBS

English

Subject field(s)
  • Environmental Studies and Analyses
  • Toxicology
CONT

Reference Concentration (RfC): The RfC is an estimate (with uncertainty spanning perhaps an order of magnitude) of a continuous inhalation exposure to the human population (including sensitive subgroups which include children, asthmatics and the elderly) that is likely to be without an appreciable risk of deleterious effects during a lifetime. It can be derived from various types of human or animal data, with uncertainty factors generally applied to reflect limitations of the data used.

CONT

... interim criteria adopted for assessing the quality of sediment in the St.Lawrence River. Three levels were defined: -No effect level (reference concentration, no chronic or acute effects); -Minimal effect level ... -Toxic effect level ...

PHR

Risk-based reference concentration, short-term reference concentration.

Domaine(s)
  • Études et analyses environnementales
  • Toxicologie
CONT

PHR

Concentration de référence basée sur les risques.
